New Trailers for Knights of Old
April 2011
Knights of Old has invested in 48 new trailers from SDC Trailers which
are already in operation at the company’s Kettering, Colchester and
Hitchin depots. With new safety and design features the new equipment
will offer Knights of Old’s customers greater flexibility with their
freight requirements.
40 of the trailers are straight frames with and internal height of 3.1
metres and all of have the EN 12642XL specification which ensures a
stronger structure. This increases the load bearing capabilities of the
front bulkhead, rear doors and curtain sides.
To improve ease of use, additional safety features have been fitted such
as: two sets of retractable steps to allows safer access in and out of
the trailer; a sliding suzie connection box which aids the positioning
for connection for air and electric lines; and the handbrakes are
positioned at the front of the trailers.
All safety features not only protect the driver whilst at work, but also improve the load retention capabilities.
The additional new trailers consist of six aero dynamic double decks and
two urban trailers with tail lifts. All trailers feature reflective
strips which run the length of the curtains and around the rear of the
trailer to improve visibility to other road users, particularly at
night.
Peter Hancox, Knights of Old Compliance Director says: “With safety at
the forefront of our operation, this significant investment in quality
equipment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to high quality service
for existing and new clients, whilst doing all we can to keep our
employees, our most valuable asset, as safe as possible.”
